ABOUT

OUR STORY

#ICANHELP grows positive school culture by developing digital leaders on your campus. With over 20 years of teaching experience, we know one thing for sure, rather than tell kids what they shouldn’t do, we show them what they can do. #ICANHELP shows students how to develop their own capacity to make positive change online and encourages them to act on it. This transforms students and their schools, creating a more positive culture and climate online and offline.

Leadership teachers Kim Karr and Matt Soeth co-founded a program called #ICANHELP, when inspired by a concerned student who contacted them about a fake Facebook page which was created to harm a local teacher. Kim and Matt realized that STUDENTS WANTED TO DO SOMETHING about drama, bullying and harassment on social media sites. The just needed the right tools to turn things around.

The #ICANHELP message is clear: One person has the power to make a difference and delete negativity online in his or her own life. More people can effect even more change. Through assemblies, presentations, social media campaigns, and student leadership trainings, #ICANHELP GIVES STUDENTS THE POWER to become digital leaders and “be the change they want to see” online. We have traveled all over the United States speaking to elementary, middle, and high schools, inspiring positive change in schools and in social media.

#ICANHELP is a project of the Net Safety Collaborative, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

To date, working with students across the US, #ICANHELP helped remove over

200

student-reported harassment/cyberbullying pages from the web.
