ICANHELPLINE.ORG – SOCIAL MEDIA HELPLINE FOR SCHOOLS – WILL EXPAND TO NATIONWIDE SERVICE FOR THE 2016-’17 SCHOOL YEAR
Helpline Founders Net Family News and #ICANHELP Form New School-Serving National Nonprofit The Net Safety Collaborative to Grow the Service
SAN JOSE, CA—The creators of the U.S.’s first Internet helpline dedicated to schools announce that they’ve merged to form a new 501c3 nonprofit organization, The Net Safety Collaborative, to expand the helpline pilot to national service for the 2016-’17 school year. With its founders’ uniquely positive, pro-digital leadership approach, TNSC will provide the most comprehensive package of tools for safe, restorative school climates yet:
Toll-free and email social media help for school staff
Online support for students via #ICANHELP
In-print digital leadership lesson plans for clubs and classrooms
On-site digital leadership training for staff as well as students.
“This is comprehensive support for all the online and on-phone parts of school safety on both the prevention and intervention sides of the equation,” said TNSC Executive Director and helpline founder Anne Collier – “prevention through increased communication, knowledge, trust and digital leadership skills.”
“Students should be – and are – showing that they are part of the solution not the problem,” said #ICANHELP co-founder and helpline co-creator Matt Soeth. “By using #ICANHELP in their favorite apps, they’ve shown us over and over again that they are up to the task of helping their peers and school communities online as well as offline.”
Starting in August, school or district personnel nationwide will be able to call TNSC’s iCanhelpline toll-free on school days at (855) 997-0409 or email anytime at help[at]icanhelpline.org. Students can alert each other and #ICANHELP staff to abusive content anytime by using the hashtag in social media apps where the content appears. Links to emergency and specialized help services and school social media resources are available 24/7 to everyone at icanhelpline.org/. Schools and districts can contact email@example.com now to book Digital Leadership training for staff and students on their campuses.
ICANHELPLINE.ORG has received support from Ask.fm, ClassDojo, Facebook, Google, Snapchat, Twitter, Yahoo and the Digital Trust Foundation.
